happy list

I keep a “happy list” on my phone that I can refer to when I’m feeling off. The simpler it is, the better. I actually have one line that reminds me to drink a glass of water. I’ve found that when I’m in a low mood, I have trouble coming up with things that I could do to make myself feel better.

The happy list lightens the cognitive load because I merely have to follow directions; ideas to boost my mood have already been thought out. The point is that teeny-tiny things can help move energy and shift a crummy mood, and when the tasks are small, they’re easier to get rolling. I just have to realize I’m feeling not-great, pull up the list on my phone, and start with one.

Some of my favorite podcasts right now are Roxy Talks, Style Your Mind with Cara Alwill, & Expanded Podcast by To Be Magnetic (especially episode 148 with Marianne Williamson). 🙂
